Quite a change to have Hugo Weaving, Mr. Smith in “The Matrix” playing the hero of this timely film. A political thriller this brilliant, deep action filled film brings in the broader aspects of a society who has been fraudulently led to slavery by the use of a state created catastrophe.
Timely as it appears to parallel our modern times and like "Gulliver’s Travels" and “The Wizard of OZ” will pass in front of the hypnotized masses with merely a notice. The film is set in a future totalitarian state of Britain. V (for Vendetta) unravels his story and entrances his co-star “Evey” who is kidnapped for her own safety. As the complicated film winds around the issues of truth, freedom and choices one is compelled to see what is happening around in the world today.
Freedom and liberty are ideals, they are something inside that cannot be killed with bullets or threats. Facing ones fears and rising above them to realize that freedom and liberty can only be possible when you stand without fear for them.
The end is “as happy an ending as celluloid can provide” as V brings the people to stand against the tyranny and oppressions of the police state. A thrilling ending to watch as the question of "will the peoples military shoot it’s own?" is answered.
Because of the parallels of today’s police state this is an important must see film. It will be the “Wizard of Oz” for our century.
